Every time I look at this manatee, I imagine him looking right back at me and wondering why everyone is staring at him. He seems a little puzzled by all the attention, like he was just drifting along, minding his own business, when suddenly he realized he had an audience.
I love the expression on his face. It makes me smile every time.

A Note from Storm
What I like most about Quiet Drifters is actually the world around the manatees. I loved building all the layers of water, sand, plants, and little bits of pattern around them.
Sometimes the background becomes my favorite part of a painting, and that’s what happened with this one.
